„My expectations have actually been exceeded“

Conversation with SIBE-student Allan Kássio Beckman Cruz - affiliated company: Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Maranhão (IFMA) - Study program: M.A. in General Management

Since April 2019, Allan Kássio Beckman Cruz takes part in the M.A. in General Management of SIBE in cooperation with the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Maranhão (IFMA). In the framework of the study program, Allan has his own project which we will get to know more.

First Degree: Computer Science
Course name: IFMA-SIBE-M.A. 01
Year of graduation: 2021

Can you tell us a little bit about your work at IFMA and the project that you are developing?

Since 2014, I work as an Information Technology Analyst at IFMA. I work primarily with software systems development, working mainly in the development of modules of our ERP system, the Institutional Portal and Moodle used for our online study programs.

My project at IFMA is “Implementation of the education, science and technology laboratory focused on research of teaching-learning models with emphasis on Education 4.0 – Case study: creation of an Intelligent Classroom at IFMA”. The project is based on the concept of Education 4.0, which is a conceptual-technological construction that aims to provide knowledge and basic tools for initial and continuing professional management and training. Therefore, the idea is to create an innovative environment conducive to the development of projects that bring students closer to this new reality. A space where students learn by doing and testing endless possibilities.

The main objective is to design and build an intelligent classroom that meets the needs of IFMA and, at the same time, is in accordance with the best practices applied in institutions that already use this model. Besides that, to create a catalogue of active methodologies and good practices to use them in this innovative space. This intelligent classroom is being set up as a pilot project, which can be expanded to all the IFMA’s campuses.

What do you think about the combination of studying and working at the same time in the framework of SIBE’s Master Program?

It is a great experience. I already had the opportunity to do it during my graduation and my master’s degree in Design. However, none of these experiences had the support and structure that SIBE and the company are offering me to do the research and continue working.

What have you enjoyed most in your studies so far? How do you rate your studies so far? Have your expectations been met?

As I come from the technology field, the Master’s degree in General Administration allows me to look at new horizons that I had never thought of studying. Subjects such as Foresight Management and Marketing are certainly my favorites. I have been able to study on a regular basis and deliver all my activities on time. My expectations have actually been exceeded. I did not expect such didactic and helpful lecturers since I knew most of them would come mainly from the market and not from the academic area. In Brazil, there is still a lot of separation from the academy and the economy.

What do you like most about your project? Where are the challenges?

I like the possibility of expanding educational possibilities in a state as poor as Maranhão, and giving possibilities to students, who otherwise might never have access to new educational technologies and active teaching-learning methodologies.

What did you learn from your project so far?

I learned mainly how to manage a project, such as the challenges of deadlines and schedules. Besides that, how to involve people and create multipliers.

Do you have any tips for people who are considering applying or cooperating with SIBE?

If you want to be a SIBE student, talk frankly with your company. The classes are excellent and very challenging. You will need to manage your time, as you have never done before. However, it will be an excellent experience. The lecturers and the SIBE team have a lot to offer. The gain will be enormous for both the student and the company.
