New publication “The Future of Leadership in a Digital and Networked World”

20. October 2025
Katharina Kaliayeva

With the help of innovation, leadership promises to lead through change and complexity and thus meet the opportunities and challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s world. At the same time, leadership can also be exposed to the influences of a digital and networked world.

Based on a solid theoretical foundation, a Delphi-based real-time scenario study was conducted with more than 100 experts worldwide to further explore what future leadership in a digital and connected world might look like and what this might imply for a leadership education curriculum. Based on the large amount of quantitative and qualitative data generated, four different scenarios as well as probable and desirable futures were developed. As part of the scenario transfer, possible development potentials for a future leadership education curriculum were derived.

The study provides a concise overview of the key connections between leadership, innovation, networks, multi-level learning and education. It provides impulses for the possible future development of leadership and leadership education in a digital and networked world. It offers a cross-disciplinary perspective into which pedagogical intentions and approaches are integrated.
