„This situation allows me to balance my financial requirements and career needs.“
Hongru Qi about his experience at SIBE as a student, Program: Master of Business Administration (MEMBA)
First Course of study: Industrial Engineering

In which company do you work? When did you start working there and what are your responsibilities?
I have worked for Actuant since 2010. Now I’m the Continuous Improvement Manager and responsible for the Lean enterprise system deployment. Actuant Corporation is a listed $1.2B diversified industrial company with operations in more than 30 countries. The Actuant businesses are leaders in a broad array of niche markets including branded hydraulic tools and solutions; specialized products and services for energy markets and highly engineered position and motion control systems.
Why did you decide for the combination of a full-time job and a job-integrated program at SIBE?
This situation allows me to balance my financial requirements and career needs. The MBA program is a good program to explore the knowledge necessary for the director level and meanwhile my salary is necessary to sustain current quality of life. Another benefit it that the company provides half of the tuition fee because I agreed on a 5-year work contract.
What did you like best so far in your studies?
Definitely the company and culture visit in Germany, and the finance course.
How do you like the concept of Experience Based Curriculum? What is the benefit for you and your company?
It helps me to analyze my business needs and strategy at a higher level and to get to know the logic of management. The company will benefit from the project selected and it also can find and keep key talents according to the work contract.
What do you like best in your project? Which challenges are you faced with?
The project study reports (PSR) and the German lecturers are the best part for me. The challenges are that the PSR progress is not always the same as the project progress.
How do you like Germany and German culture? What is it like as compared with China?
I really like Stuttgart. Kind people, not-so-fast pace, self-disciplined. And a big difference is that big companies are often located in the country-side in Germany.
